An abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" is a cosmetic procedure performed to re-contour the abdomen and tighten the abdominal muscles while removing excess overhanging tissue. The belly button is repositioned as the skin is tightened. This procedure is rarely covered by insurance and is a self-pay procedure.
An abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program. This procedure will not correct stretch marks. Some stretch marks are removed if they are located in the lower abdomen and the general appearance may improve.
Procedure Details The procedure is performed through a horizontal incision from hip to hip. The weakened abdominal muscles are repaired and excess tissue is removed from the lower abdomen. The belly button is repositioned through a new opened. All dissolving sutures are used and a drain is placed at either side of the abdomen. The drains are removed after 1-3 weeks depending on the output.
